Calligraphy, art and design in Plymouth by Letterwork
Paul Mattock - profile
As a lettering artist, calligrapher and signwriter over many years I have been inspired by the more traditional disciplines of lettering, which includes stone and wood lettercarving, signwriting, wedding stationery design packages and greetings card design. My personal influences come from more contemporary calligrapher/lettering artists. This allows me to develop my work to the point where I am questioning how far away from formal written patterns I can work, but still retain the visual perception that here is writing.
Jeni Mattock - profile
My work is inspired by my passion for the sea, beach, and its waves. The unceasing incoming surf that ripples across the horizon, swirling and bubbling around tide filled hollows; feature in my creative process.
As an artist colour inspires my works with fabric and even in some cases the lack of it; to produce beautiful seascapes and wave images. Alongside this I am continuing with my exploration of the female form, clothed and unclothed. I use dark paper and pastels; currently I am experimenting with producing larger images, using simple line to capture female sexuality.
